Supportive Services
Emergency Support
MBK facilitates the transition process by providing participants with emergency support services. For those individuals in need of transportation assistance, Bus Tickets are made available to ensure a safe trip home and return to MBK the following day. We also have a clothing closet, where participants can access both casual and business attire.
Housing Referrals - the primary objective for the My Brothers Keeper Housing Initiative is to provide housing referrals and social services in one central facility for individuals without housing options. MBK has partnered with a number of agencies that provide temporary housing options. Our programs are designed to meet the needs of individuals at any stage of transition. Our housing coordinator establishes linkages with various housing programs throughout the city. Clients are also given information about the housing options rules and regulations.
Restored Relations
Restored Relations focuses on mending relationships between family and friends that have been disrupted or damaged due to various reasons. This component is based on the principle that establishing positive, healthy relationships with family and friends is key to reducing stress, anger, oppression, depressions and recidivism. Through Restored Relations, we also provide the opportunity for family members to prepare for their loved ones' as well as their own transitional experience.
Statistics show that 1.5 million children who are under the age of 18 in the United States have one or both of their parents incarcerated. To better service this population, we have partnered with churches that provides the children with academic assistance and mentoring, as well as provide open communication and support of their parent(s). In many ways, families endure just as much of a traumatic experience as those who are unemployed or incarcerated, and MBK's Restored Relations component aims to help both the individual and his or her loved ones.
